Will Work for Fashion

And so the job hunt begins.
Let me first introduce myself.

My name is Rachel Kathleen Core, I’m a 23 year-old University of Texas at Austin college graduate, with a Bachelor of Science in Retail Merchandising. I have a deep love for the 60’s and 70’s, some of my favorite movies are in black and white and many of my favorite musical artists became rock stars before I was even thought of. On more than one occasion I have been called an “old soul” and while I have an intense love and respect for the past, I have an equally incandescent excitement for the present and future.

For the past 4 months I have had the pleasure to work and intern for one of the most stylish and artistic professionals in the fashion industry, Lori Goldstein. I learned valuable skills such as preparation and assistance for editorial and campaign photo shoots, sample trafficking, archival and fashion closet inventory and organization, social media contribution, time management and communication skills. However more importantly, I learned how to think out of the box, cultivate creativity from everyday life and discover my passion and ambition to make a lifelong career in the fashion industry.

My skills would be a great contribution to companies with entry level positions focusing on merchandising coordination, styling, marketing and PR, and social media. I truly am passionate about what I do and am genuinely excited to begin my career and see where this life takes me.

Below is my resume, if you would like to contact me for an interview please do so at rkc387@gmail.com or 409-659-1109.

I can't stop digging the way you make me feel...

It's already been a month since Chanel's underwater fairy tale strut its stuff down the Paris catwalks and I still find myself frequenting Style.com to browse through the photos. There's something so mysteriously alluring about sea life, the ocean - its beauty and all the vast unknown grandeur.

Oh Karl, you've done it again...

Now and Then: 1920s

From subtle hints of the roaring '20's to dramatic exaggerations of classic silhouettes, designers from New York to London drew inspiration from and paid homage to decade.

Being the history buff that I am, I love to look back to the decade and compare the quintessential looks from the time juxtaposed with the modern interpretations. Here are some of my favorite 20's inspired looks from New York and London paired with photos from the 1920's.

And now the adventure actually begins...

I can't believe it's taken me almost a month after moving to New York to start blogging again. Although it's probably a good sign, means that I'm actually out enjoying this insane place.
My first week in New York consisted of a lot of exploring (aka lots of walking), several trips to the amazing vegan bakery Babycakes, a new hair cut, several girls nights out and finally starting the internship I'd been waiting for since March.

Happy to say that I've joined the team over at Lori Goldstein! I've been interning for about three weeks so far and it has been amazing; getting to do great things with great people! Here is some of Lori's  latest work for W Magazine and Vogue Italia.

More posts to come about my favorite shows from the fashion weeks and a New York vs. London fashion week mash up!

California Dreamin'

Another weekend getaway has come and gone, but thankfully my vacation state of mind hasn't completely left. Instead of stressing to the max about tests, internships, events I need to be at and work, I've been surprisingly calm (and actually getting enough sleep!) this week.

I'm attributing this new found stress release to my quick weekend trip to L.A. and Southern California. The people, the atmosphere, the weather, and the great company I had with me made it a well relaxed weekend that was way overdue.

 {almost there!!}
 {toes in the sand will always be the best pedicure}
So excited that I got to have a quick meeting over coffee with one of my favorite bloggers, B. Jones Style! She gave the best shopping recommendations - I have to make another quick back soon to hit all the stops - advice, and insight for breaking into and being successful in the fashion industry. Such a sweet, down-to-earth lady, couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off my trip! Thanks again!

But vacation is over and even though I will, luckily, get at least a month of down time before my move to NYC, interning in a huge city, the reality of graduation, getting a "real" job, and grad school are all looming overhead and I can't help but admit I'm scared! Just need to remember to take this stress-free state of mind with me through it all...
