Let me first introduce myself.

My name is Rachel Kathleen Core, I’m a 23 year-old University of Texas atAustin college graduate, with a Bachelor of Science in Retail Merchandising. Ihave a deep love for the 60’s and 70’s, some of my favorite movies are in blackand white and many of my favorite musical artists became rock stars before Iwas even thought of. On more than one occasion I have been called an “oldsoul” and while I have an intense love and respect for the past, I have an equallyincandescent excitement for the present and future.

I can't believe it's taken me almost a month after moving to New York to start blogging again. Although it's probably a good sign, means that I'm actually out enjoying this insane place.

My first week in New York consisted of a lot of exploring (aka lots of walking), several trips to the amazing vegan bakery Babycakes, a new hair cut, several girls nights out and finally starting the internship I'd been waiting for since March.

Happy to say that I've joined the team over at Lori Goldstein! I've been interning for about three weeks so far and it has been amazing; getting to do great things with great people! Here is some of Lori's latest work for W Magazine and Vogue Italia.

California Dreamin'

Another weekend getaway has come and gone, but thankfully my vacation state of mind hasn't completely left. Instead of stressing to the max about tests, internships, events I need to be at and work, I've been surprisingly calm (and actually getting enough sleep!) this week.

I'm attributing this new found stress release to my quick weekend trip to L.A. and Southern California. The people, the atmosphere, the weather, and the great company I had with me made it a well relaxed weekend that was way overdue.

Today mainly consisted of watching my first Broadway play ever and eating delicious food. Needless to say, it was an amazing day. Tomorrow I'm headed to Family Jewels off 23rd street then hopping a shuttle to the airport and it's back to ATX I go! Sad and happy to be leaving this amazing place! New York City, as my friend Ashley said, has an energy unlike anywhere else.

So Wednesday was the last day of the seminar with the UT Texas Exes program and I must say I was on cloud nine the whole day. We began our day at The Museum of the City of New York and ended at the studio of the famous stylist Lori Goldstein. I felt like I've done nothing but meet celebrities all week (almost bumping into Katie Holmes and Suri totally counts, even if me and my girlfriends did walk right past them without noticing!), its been such a surreal experience.

At the beginning of fall semester I decided that I was going to apply to graduate school to get a master's of art in fashion curation. Knowing that this career would be the perfect mesh of my love of history and fashion I knew it was something I had to pursue. So, you can imagine how insanely excited I was to meet the curator for the costume collection of the Museum of the City of New York. I almost died when the curator opened a vault that revealed three original gowns designed by the House of Worth. The intricate details, the intact paniers, and beautiful fabrics, ah clothes just aren't made like that anymore! I have tons of photos but because of copyright/privacy issues I'm not sure if I can share them. However I can share some pictures I got of their current exhibit and if you are ever in New York during a fashion exhibit you must stop by!

From the museum we headed down to the Fendi offices off fifth avenue to speak with their accessories buyer and their HR director. The history of the company is amazing and shows what an awesome establishment they really are. When I left not only did I want to work there but I also wanted to forgo paying my rent so I could take home one of their peek-a-boo bags with me!

After Fendi we headed to what was my favorite stop of the whole seminar, Lori Goldstein's styling studio. We were greeted by one of Lori's personal assistants Danny. He gave us a complete tour of the studio and a run down of what goes on on a daily basis. I was so captivated by the fast paced, energetic and passionate atmosphere of the office. After a whirlwind of office visits the seminar concluded with a networking reception where I got to mingle with some pretty amazing people and then my vacation in NYC started! My mom, sister and nephew arrived Thursday afternoon and we have been non stop exploring the city ever since. These past two days in New York have been a complete eye opener for me. Its reaffirmed that fact that the fashion industry is where I need to be, but it's wavered my decision of where in the country I want to end up. I always said I would never ever move to New York, basically because I never thought I was 'cutthroat' enough, creative enough, or had enough connections. Well as the title of this post says never say never, I'm actually thinking of taking the plunge and moving to the city rather than the beach.

Most of those who know me well will understand how big of a change of heart it is for me to be considering a move to the city and I'm still not sure I will actually be able to do it. There's just so much opportunity here it's insane. Just so many things to think about, definitely need a few days for some self/career evaluations. But aside from my "where to go now" dilemma we had some amazing office visits on Tuesday!

We got to go inside the MMG Macy's and speak with their design, merchandising, .com, and some of the inventory teams. From there we went to Macy's Herald Square and got to meet with the famous Paul Olszewski who is the Director of Window Design. This man has won tons of awards for his artistic window displays, if you haven't seen any of his work google immediately.

From Macy's we went onto FIT and explored their current exhibits: His and Hers, Japan Now, and Vivienne Westwood. They have some amazing pieces in this collection and it is definitely worth seeing. The Japan Now collection will blow your mind.

After FIT we went over the Blue Stripe PR, a fashion PR company, and got a tour of their studios. They represent some really great lines and seem to have some of the glamorous lives in the industry.

And finally to end our day we spent some time at Joseph Abboud's studio speaking with some of the UT alum that make up the merchandising and PR.

It was an extremely busy day but super fun and we got to meet some really great people. I will soon follow up with a post about our Wednesday activities; I have tons of pictures to share! But for now I'm off, my mom should be making it into NYC with my sister and nephew any minute now and I cant wait to see them! Whew! Now the real vacation begins!

Spring break is finally here and I'm spending my time on a seminar/vacation in the big apple. This is my first time in New York and I've already bumped into more people and light poles than I can count because I'm constantly looking up instead of looking at what's in front of me. The city is everything I ever dreamed of and more!

The seminar part of the trip is put on by The University of Texas' Texas Exes. They allow a group of students to meet with alumni and are guided around the city making office visits to various companies in the industry of their study. My textile and apparel group will be visiting Macy's, FIT, Joseph Abboud, Blue Stripe PR, Fendi and touring Lori Goldstein's studio (omg soooooo excited, btw Lori was named one of StyleCaster's 50 Most Stylish New Yorkers!)

As excited as I am about going to all these amazing companies, I'm still in shock of the surreal guest speaker we got to meet with today. The great Iris Apfel.

It was such a surreal experience being in the same room as Mrs. Apfel and listening to her stories and taking in all the advice she was giving us. I'm forever grateful to our leader Mrs. Prideaux for setting up this amazing opportunity and can't wait to see what New York has in store for me!

School, work, internship wrangling, and preparing for the "real world" are completely interfering with my blogging/social media world and I don't like it. I'm so behind on catching up with fashion weeks, it'll take me weeks to go through them all. Ah the problems of a college student...

However, are in the midst of London fashion week, and for those who know me I'm a sucker for anything British. You might say I suffer from a bad case of Anglomania (my historic costume professor would be so proud, using vocab in my blog posts...). So it was no surprise that I fell in love with Burberry Prorsum's Fall 2011 show. The brights colors, tartan patterns, my favorite trenches and structured silhouettes, ah who ever said fall/winter had to be muted tones and boring?!

As much as I loved the garments in this line, I was equally confused by the cow print and sheep skin beret's all the female models were wearing. I felt like it took away from the garments much of the time and I'm all for accessories but sorry BP you dropped the ball on this one...

I unfortunately have 8 am classes every morning, which means I get up at 6 am everyday and even with coffee, its super hard to get up and get going. I used to be a morning person but the older I get the more that is not true. Cure for my morning sleepiness? Listen to music with insane beats and fast tempos that (embarrassingly) have me power walking to be the beat of my ipod through campus.

Weekend Spree

Accidentally went on a little shopping spree this weekend...

These boots are vintage leather Steve Madden army boots picked up at Plato's closet for $18.

Strapped wedges I picked up at one of my favorite Austin boutiques, Strut. They reminded me immediately of these Jeffery Campbell wedges and at $24 I couldn't pass them up.

It's been surprisingly rainy here in Austin the past couple days and I was seriously lacking some great rainboots. I got these olive Steve Madden wellies (with orange zipper tape!!) at Dillard's for only $80.

I got this Flying Tomato dress also at Strut for $34. The flower appliques and lace sold me at first glance! Love how reminiscent of the 60's it is!

Finally my little rack is starting to fill out! A great weekend of great shopping and great deals! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend as well.

While making my normal blog reads the other morning I found this amazing blog, A Better Roni, via The Man Repeller. The phrase "would this be considered a man repeller?" and "man repelling at it's best" has seemed to creep into being a part of my everday language so when she said that this blog was a "a silly and equally awesome fashion blog" I knew it was right up my alley.

The woman behind A Better Roni is Emily Kropp an associate editor at styledon.com from Brooklyn, NY. She is super cute, witty, has great style and is down right funny (follow her tweets too @toomanyronis).

She has a recurring post called My Style: Now and Then where she takes a picture from her childhood and then creates a modern day look from it. Below are a few of her recent Now and Then Styles...

Leaving on a Jet Plane

One of my dearest friends is leaving today to volunteer in India for two months! We had a going away party last night at a restaraunt we frequent; it was so great seeing her one last time before she embarks on this amazing journey!

She inspired me to pull together a small list of inexpensive cool items that you could give someone that is traveling abroad for a while. I always find it hard to give going away presents to travelers because you can't give them anything that will take up any valuable space in the luggage or something that they won't be able to take at all.

Include a small soft photo album with a few photos of close friends and family. The shampoo and conditioner is great example of getting them a toiletry item they might not normally purchase for themselves but need to include in their packing. Personalized stationary is always a great way to go, when traveling I always think postcards and letters are much more personal and fun! The laundry bag is great for those that will be staying in hostels and the guide book for those who won't have time for guided tours and want to take on the challenge themselves. The passport cover is great because it conceals their passport and doesn't take up any extra room. Remember functionality with a bit of personalization when looking for the perfect travel gift!

Ok, so it's no secret that I really, really hate the cold. If I could actually ever be bundled up and never get cold, I would welcome winter with open arms but that is never the case. So naturally as soon as the holidays are over I begin lusting for a time when shorts, sundresses, and anything strappy are my go to items.

I came across these Jeffery Campbell Gypsy Wedges this morning and couldn't stop thinking about them. True they could be a great winter shoe paired with tights or high waisted trousers (whoever said no white after labor day, well they were wrong). However I could only picture them with long flowy summer dresses, short skirts and frilly tops, or a great pair of high waisted shorts. Oh Jeff, you never cease to amaze me.

My semesters are always so busy with work, school, and extra activities that I barely ever have any time to indulge in the things that I really love like reading, watching movies, and actively planning a decent wardrobe on a daily basis. However it's winter break now and I've had (surprisingly!) a week off of work and I've been treating myself to all these luxuries!

I started reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro on Saturday and I'm already blown away. The story really does pull you in immediately, constantly leaving at the edge of your seat, and making you incessantly wonder what really is behind this mysterious boarding school. The book is about a young woman reflectling back on her time with a few close friends at a secluded boarding school in the English countryside. The school is unconventional in many ways and contains many secrets. Don't let anyone clue you in on anything before read, it's a much better twist or I guess your could say reveal when you figure it out yourself.

As soon as I finish the novel I'm definitely going to watch the film. The screenplay was written by Alex Garland and directed by director Mark Romanek. Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, and Andrew Garfield play the three students.

New Year's Non-Goals and Resolutions

This year throughout the blogger community several lovely ladies, such as Design for Mankind and Plush Palate, started a new trend of making a list of New Year's non-goals. The non-goals are a list of qualities and things about your life that you love and want to keep. This is such a great idea because sometimes we forget to remind ourselves and appreciate the good thing's we already have in our lives. However I also made a list of resolutions too; I believe always having a challenge or goal to try to reach help keeps things interesting.

So here are my non-goals:
1. Your ambition is your biggest asset in life and will take your far, continue following that.
2. You are great at balancing the things in your life, between friends, work, school, and family. Keep that up and remember you always need people you love in your life. (when the school and work part get hard you were good at not pushing them away but bringing them closer to you.)
3. Your motivation has exceeded the limits you thought you were capable of and you are keeping that going, don't ever stop being motivated.
4. You have finally come to terms with the fact that people will enter and leave your life, you can't please everyone, and for those who have chosen to leave, well it was probably for the best. This was a vital realization and don't ever forget it.
5. You are the luckiest girl in the world to have such amazing friends and extended family. Their support and love keep you going, always continue to appreciate that.

And now for my resolutions...
1. BLOG everyday. I started this blog as a way to cultivate more creativity in my life and challenge me try and do new things. This new year will be all about striving to make that true!
2. Get a 4.0 in what will be one of my last actual semesters of in class learning.
3. Get accepted to the internship of my dreams (or not take no for an answer!)
4. Study abroad in London before I graduate next winter.

2011 is going to be an amazing year with lots of great traveling, new experiences, and time with amazing friends! Hope you all had a wonderful time ringing in the new year and may 2011 be all you hoped it would be!

Hell Week

Calling the last week of the semester at UT, Hell Week, is an understatement. Five nights out of the week I've actually only slept on two of them, i've had a diet that mainly consisted of coffee and red bull, and I'm pretty sure that these dark circles under my eyes make me look like a zombie. However, happily I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel; after 10am tomorrow I get a week long break before my actual finals start, I wonder if I could take a week long nap?

Semester at a Glance

I have to say that this semester I've had more projects, trips to the art store/hobby lobby, sleepless nights, endless cups of coffee, and filled sketchbooks then I've ever had in my life. However, I will admit that this has also been the most rewarding semester I've had in college. I'm finally learning things that, I know, will aide me a great deal in succeeding in the fashion industry.

Through one of my textile classes, Apparel Production and Design Lab, I had the opportunity to assemble what will be eventually become my professional portfolio, that will hopefully accompany me to several fabulous internship and job interviews after my days at the University of Texas are finished. Through this class I have learned that hard work, time management, and key organizational skills are vital to meeting dead lines and producing presentation ready projects.

I have transferred my hard copy portfolio onto this blog to share all that I have been diligently working on throughout this semester. I hope you enjoy thumbing through them as much as I enjoyed creating them.

One Language: Going Green in Style

Today I wanted to feature a great bag line that has become quite popular lately. The line is called One Language and they offer printed canvas bags that are made from natural cotton canvas. For those of you who read my blog I love everything organic and natural (save the world! and these lovely ladies are doing it one bag at a time) so I was sure to be a fan right away.

Two sisters from NYC started the line and they totally have the background for this to be a huge success (it really already is!!); one sister graduated from Cornell while the other graduated from Parsons! Smart and fashion savvy? These are my kind of ladies!

Bon La Vu

Last night I had the pleasure of attending Bon La Vu's fall fashion show and launch party at a great little rooftop bar in downtown Austin. Guests were greeted with a red carpet photo then led upstairs for some drinks and mingling before the fashion show kicked off around 9pm.

There was some amazing pieces courtesy of local Austin designers and boutiques; from leggings completely adorned in silver spikes, to several modern versions of the little black dress, and some of the cutest tapered trousers that I've seen in a long time. I found myself wishing that a lot of these items would find their way to my closet immediately!

I've never been a big fan of award shows. Truthfully they give me headaches, but for some reason last night (after 36hrs of straight nannying) I decided to stretch out on the couch and watch the Emmys.

It was funny, entertaining, and the fashion was to die for (well most of it). I have to say that this years Emmys might have changed my attitude towards award shows. And now, of course, I must share with you guys my two favorite looks of the evening.

I've had some serious blogger block lately. My brain has been consumed with errands galore getting ready for my senior semester of college! So many changes headed my way. A new apartment and adding a third lovely roommate, taking classes I'm actually going to enjoy, possibly adding a second job to my plate, finalizing where I want to intern, real-world job searching, and finally seeing my fours years of ass-busting work pay off when I walk across the stage and graduate from the University of Texas. Ah might have just overwhelmed myself actually typing all that!

For the fourth time in 4 years I will be moving into another apartment here in Austin in three short weeks. I've only lived in my current apartment for just over a year and I never fully decorated my room. I had bare white walls (which unfortunately are still bare and still white) so in an attempt to decorate I bought a new duvet, some cute curtains and some new shelves, but nothing really ever seemed to cohesively fit in there as much as I would have liked. So moving into a new place I'm going to take the initiative to decorate my room fully. I love urban outfitters apartment section so I spent a little time online shopping to pick out some wish list items that I will hopefully purchase in the next coming weeks to furnish my new little abode.

I'm also looking for a great cheap chair, some good curtains, I've been dying for the perfect shag rug and of course some wall art to finally complete the room. Figured this was a good color palette and some good starter pieces to get my decorating gears going. Do you have any fun decorating tips? Would love to hear them!

Marie Claire's fall fashion issue is out and the beautiful Mary-Kate Olsen graces the cover! Just last year, also in the fall fashion issue, Ashley Olsen did a similar spread, taking us inside her closet and a peak into her life. The current issue features an amazing article where MK opens up about being raised in the spotlight, jokingly saying that her and Ashley feel 48 instead of 24 because they've been working since they were 9 months old. I couldn't imagine being 24 yrs old, CEO of a billion-dollar company, and designer for two amazing fashion lines The Row and Elizabeth and James. Strawberry and Goat Cheese Salad

I finally had a night without oodles of calculus homework, so I decided to actually cook myself dinner. I made this super simple, and super tasty salad, perfect for a hot summer day, or a quick dinner when you don't have much time on your hands. I used all organic ingredients and consider this recipe vegetarian (even though some argue it isn't because of the goat cheese, but who could give up cheese!?)

And speaking of goat cheese, I just recently tried it and oh.my.gosh. I have been missing out! This cheese is so melt in your mouth good and has an amazing flavor all its own. Definitely my new favorite next to feta.

Strawberry and Goat Cheese Salad w/ balsamic vinaigrette

- 3 tbs. orange juice

- 2 tbs balsamic vinegar (aged)

- 1 tsp canola oil

- 1/4 tsp salt

- 1/4 tsp sugar
- 4 cups greens (I used a spring mix)
- 1 cup thinly sliced strawberries
- 1/4 cup roughly chopped roasted almonds
- 1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese

1. In a separate bowl whisk together the first 5 ingredients. There can be slight differentiations on amounts added depending on your taste preference. I love balsamic vinegar so I added more than what the recipe called for.
2. In a large bowl gently toss the greens, almonds, and strawberries.
3. Top with crumbled goat cheese and drizzle with vinaigrette.

I was super famished since I skipped lunch so along with my salad, I doubled the vinaigrette recipe and marinated a boneless chicken breast in the dressing I had left over. I marinated the chicken for about 30 minutes, then browned it on both sides. It takes about 15 minutes total to brown. I then lowered the heat, added more of the vinaigrette, covered the pan and let the chicken simmer in the vinaigrette for an extra 10 minutes. It came out pretty well and tasted fabulous with the salad!

I Love This City

I bought a used Nikon d40 a couple months ago in hopes of teaching myself some photography skills. Most photographers I talked to said the best way to learn was to just grab your camera and snap whenever, wherever. Eventually you'll learn what lighting is best when, what shutter speeds to use, interesting angles, etc. Well lesson #1 of self-taught photography, don't become photo happy at 10am on a Sunday morning when it's 95 degrees outside. After 15 minutes I was melting.

However, aside from the almost self induced heat stroke I think I actually got some pretty good shots of some iconic Austin spots. Many of these are my favorite artwork on buildings and business signs around town.

I'm in dire need of a new bag to carry my school things for fall semester. I was looking for something a little more stylish than my worn out canvas tote, or solid Jansport backpack that I've had since I was in the sixth grade. I bought a leather backpack off eBay last fall semester but sadly when it came in the mail, it was barely big enough to fit one spiral in. I've tried to find the real vintage version of a leather backpack, but I have yet to find one!

This is so amazingly creative; I would love to pick the brain of the one who came up with this concept and meet the artists that contributed. I've only recently become fascinated by the documentary world. I would say, that where the film industry today is becoming cheesier and more boring by the minute, documentaries are more and more entertaining to me. They are actually about real, amazing, life changing stories, adventures, and lives. About things that we could probably relate to more than anything in a vampire love story (however yes, I am guilty of watching them too).

Oceans Waves Beaches featured this trailer for the documentary 180 degrees South friday. It is currently on free/instant view on Netflix and as soon as I'm done studying for the week, I'm downloading and watching.

School and work have kept me from keeping up with my blog as much as I would like to; however, there are no classes on Friday so I normally can find a little time to make a quick post.

I've been "window shopping" on topshop.com here lately and I've already come up with an entirely too long wish list. A picked a couple of my favorite pieces to share, the best thing about all these pieces is they are perfect transition pieces from summer, to fall, and being in the south I could definitely use these in my winter wardrobe too.

I want to live in that cream jumper! It looks so breezy and soft, perfect for a chilly night, but loose enough to enjoy during the day. I've been wanting a good bodycon skirt (this one is perfect!), loving the look of a billowy top, with a tight bottom. And ahhhh I'm dying for these PAIGE wedges! They are great for summer, and I would hope to be brave enough to try them with a cute sock underneath for fall or winter outfits. The vintage feel of the floral cross body bag is right up my alley and floral goes great with any season!

Don't Worry, Be Happy

This week, today especially, has been very trying for me. I don't do well with stress, so these days as soon as things get me down I immediately try to remind myself of things make me happy, reassess goals that I'm striving for, and think of all the wonderful things around me. These images are all of those things to me.

Hands Across the Sand mission statement: To organize a national movement to oppose offshore oil drilling and champion clean energy and renewables. These gatherings will bring thousands of American citizens to our beaches and cities and will draw metaphorical and actual lines in the sand; human lines in the sand against the threat oil drilling poses to America’s coastal economies and marine environment.

Oh Diane!

Featured on the cover of the July issue of Allure magazine is the beautiful Diane Kruger and she looks absolutely amazing!

Kruger is most notably famous for her work as Helen of Troy in Troy, Dr. Abigail Chase in the National Treasure franchise and recently as Bridget von Hammersmark in Inglorious Bastards. However, aside from being a very talented actress, Kruger has definitely proven herself as a style icon of our time.

Did you know that she is a personal friend of Chanel genius Karl Lagerfeld!? Diane told Allure how Karl designed her dress for the Cannes film festival in 2004 and he even signed the sketch of the dress to her personally! How lucky is this girl?!

Not only is she pals with one of the most amazing men in fashion but Kruger proves herself to be a genuine, down to earth fashionista that I would consider one of my idols. She is her own stylist, hair stylist, and did I mention that she does her own makeup for all red carpet events to make sure that she always looks like herself? So cool!

International Surfing Day - Help the Oil Spill Relief!

Living in Southeast Texas I've never had the chance to go surfing, although it is on my list of things to one day learn. I grew up in Orange, TX which is 5 minutes from the Texas/Louisiana state border and only 45 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. My family did take regular trips to the gulf and it was a natural quick trip destination for me and all my friends throughout high school. I immediately gained a love for the beach and ocean (even though our beaches resembled a muddy lake much more than a beautiful blue ocean, thank you Mississippi River), but nonetheless it will always hold a special place in my heart.

The Surfrider Foundation is a foundation that is committed to helping protect the beaches of the world, and preserving this amazing part of life for future generations to enjoy. Sadly, technology of today is threatening our beaches and ocean life. I'm sure everyone is aware of the BP oil spill that is affecting the gulf as we speak. In the past 61 days there has been 66,612,000 gallons of oil spilt into the ocean. Thats almost 2,000,000 gallons into the gulf a day.

Rachel Zoe included these amazing leopard flats by Devi Kroell in her Zoe Report yesterday and I fell in love!

I wasn't very familiar with any of Kroell's designs, and after taking a look at her spring, summer look book for 2010 I must say I have been missing out! I am amazed with all of her work. The way she mixes colors and textures is pure genius and I find myself drooling over all these shoes!!

Snakeskin tennies? Yes please!

I'm already imagining all the holiday parties these beauties could attend!

And speaking of Rachel Zoe, is anyone else super excited for the return of The Rachel Zoe Project, August 3rd on Bravo??!! It's going to be bananas!

Meet Me in the Mediterranean

Summer is here. It's melting. When this time of the year comes around my appetite seems to fly out the window; food feels too heavy to eat and if it's not ice cold I'm not interested. Being in college full time and working part time doesn't leave me much time to cook for myself so whenever I get the chance to whip up a dish I'm more than happy to! I invited all the girls over for a little dinner party for one last get together before my roommate leaves for vacation in Colorado and then Oxford for the rest of the summer (so jealous!) and I got the chance to make one of my favorite dishes, Greek Pizza.

The best part of this pizza: it takes about 20 min. total to prepare and cook, it's completely vegan and organic for all those foodies out there, and it tastes ten times better as cold leftovers the next day.

Greek Pizza with Basil Pesto
1 bunch fresh basil
1 cup toasted walnut halves
3 cloves of garlic

2 Kabuli ready made pizza crusts (can find in most specialty food stores)

5 Roma tomatoes - sliced
1 lg. purple onion - sliced
1-2 jars pitted, halved Kalamata olives (depending on how much you like them, I love to smother my pizza in them!)

First you want to make the pesto spread that is used instead of pizza sauce. In a food processor blend the walnuts and 3 cloves of garlic. After well processed add 1/2 cup of water and basil and blend until thick.

Next, spread equal amounts of basil pesto on your two pizza crusts. Top with sliced onions, olives, and roma tomatoes. Place both pizzas in 450 degree oven and bake for about 8-10 minutes, just until the crust is brown and the tomatoes have slightly wilted. Sprinkle with fat free crumbled feta (optional), pour a glass of pinot and enjoy!

Had to try to this bottle of Pinot Grigio only because the label was so cute! I love that little cartoon fish sunbathing, in the rain, on the beach. :)

After coming across Vanessa Jackman's photography blog I discovered that there must be something in Australia's water.... the girls there are all incredibly stylish and amazingly beautiful; watch out America these Aussie's might have one up on all of us!

Pirate Radio

So I finally had a Saturday off this weekend and after a long, fun night out with friends I was in definite need of some couch potato time. I always keep a list of books to read, music to download, and movies to watch on some sticky notes on my laptop desktop. With my new found free time I thought it was the perfect time to cross off one of those movie I had put off seeing for such a long time. And so I spent the next hour and fifty seven minutes watching a movie that is now at the top of my favorites list, Pirate Radio.

This movie was laugh out loud funny and total "rule-breaking" inspiring. The movie is about how British Parliament outlaws rock n' roll radio stations in the 60's. Large ships were anchoring off the coast of Britain, just out of law's rule and broadcasted their shows to millions of British fans. Pirate Radio epitomizes the "eff-authority" attitude of the 1960's era and I loved every minute of it.

Not only was it incredibly fun watching a group of middle-aged (and one very young, hot Tom Sturridge I might add), music loving, hippy men broadcast illegal music to thousands of screaming brits but the soundtrack was absolutely amazing! From Smoky Robinson and the Miracles, to The Beach Boys, The Kinks, Jimi Hendrix and The Who, Pirate Radio was completely successful in including a plethora of influential bands from the time period. I immediately bought the soundtrack on itunes and haven't stopped listening to it yet! I would definitely give this flick two thumbs up!

New Beginnings

Welcome to The Core Essentials! Along with having about 20 things on my plate already, I thought to myself, "What the hell, I'm gonna start a blog!" So here it is blogger world, my very own blog. I have been addicted to reading several blogs every morning (actually can't start my day without catching up on all of them) and was inspired to start my own about all things that I love and inspire me.

So here are my first ramblings! Hope you all enjoy reading as much as I enjoy sharing!

Well summer is almost officially here and it's already so hot here in Texas that it still feels scorching in doors with the air conditioner on full blast. Soon the entire city will be walking around in nothing but teeny bikinis and swim trunks. Normally my summer wardrobe consists of loose cotton shorts and tees in hopes of staying cool and dry. However, after receiving the summer catalog for Roxy a while back they left me wishing that I could revamp my closet with every look they put together! Here are a just a few favorites of mine:
